To ensure peaceful and orderly elections this coming May 12, 2025, the Lanao del Norte Police Provincial Office has requested an additional 400 police officers. The move is aimed at strengthening security in areas known for intense political rivalries and potential election-related violence.
This initiative is part of a wider effort by the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to safeguard voters and uphold the integrity of the electoral process. In support of this goal, the 2nd Mechanized Infantry “Magbalantay” Brigade has deployed 55 armored vehicles and formed Task Force Halalan 2025 to oversee security operations during the elections.
Several municipalities in Lanao del Norte have been flagged as high-risk areas. Nunungan has been classified under the Red category, while Pantar, Poona Piagapo, Munai, Magsaysay, and Kauswagan fall under the Orange category. These designations are based on the history of election-related violence and ongoing political tensions in the region.
By increasing the presence of law enforcement personnel, the government aims to deter violence, strictly enforce election laws—including the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban—and ensure that voters can safely and freely cast their ballots.
This proactive security measure highlights the commitment of authorities to protect the democratic process and the safety of the Filipino people during the 2025 midterm elections.
