PDEA Leads Destruction of P5.32B in Illegal Drugs, Reinforcing Transparency and Public Trust

In a significant display of law enforcement action and accountability, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) destroyed over ₱5.32 billion worth of dangerous drugs on Tuesday at a waste management facility in Trece Martires City, Cavite.

The operation involved the thermal decomposition of over 2.2 tons of solid illegal drugs and more than 3.4 liters of liquid contraband. Among the destroyed substances were nearly 740 kg of shabu, 1.47 tons of marijuana, and other illicit drugs such as ecstasy, cocaine, LSD, and ketamine.

A major highlight was the inclusion of over 400 kg of shabu confiscated in a high-profile interdiction at the Port of Manila earlier this year.

PDEA Director General Undersecretary Isagani Nerez emphasized that the destruction of the drugs was meant to eliminate public suspicion over the possible “recycling” or resale of confiscated contraband. “Stacked inside a chamber, the dangerous drugs were burned beyond recovery,” Nerez stated, adding that the initiative aligns with the Marcos administration’s Bagong Pilipinas campaign for transparency and good governance.

This was the first ceremonial destruction of illegal drugs under Nerez’s leadership, witnessed by officials from various law enforcement agencies, government departments, NGOs, and the media. It further reinforced the agency’s commitment to public accountability.

The large-scale destruction not only showcases the effectiveness of recent anti-drug operations but also serves as a stern message against the illegal drug trade, highlighting the government’s ongoing efforts to protect communities and restore trust in public institutions.
