A magnitude 5.2 earthquake shook the province of Masbate Tuesday (March 6).
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the quake occurred at 7:06 a.m. and the epicenter was at 3 kilometers north of Masbate City. Five aftershocks were immediately felt since 8:30 a.m.
According to Phivolcs, the earthquake was felt at Intensity 4 in Irosin and Cabid-an, and in Sorsogon City, Intensity 3 at Sigma, Capiz, Catarman and Capul Island in Northern Samar, Almagro and Tagapul-an in Western Samar.
Reported damages include broken glass windows of buildings and collapsed and leaning concrete walls of residential and business establishments.
According to the National Disaster Risk and Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), ten people were reported injured with most of them getting head and foot injuries. They were brought to Masbate Provincial Hospital.
Some portions of Masbate City experienced power interruption. Classes in all local schools were likewise suspended.
