Security guards in NAIA 3 brawl suspended

Starting on Monday (May 14) until Friday (May 18), six security guards who figured in the brawl between the camp of actor Raymart Santiago and journalist Ramon Tulfo at NAIA 3 will be suspended.

The Philippine National Police Supervisory Office for Security and Investigation Agencies (SOSIA) cited the security guards’ failure to prevent the brawl for the suspension.

The guards were identified as Flincer Baje, Jaypee Go, Eden Budejas, Aries Afable, Alfredo Cappal and Wilson Cadiente Jr., all of the Lanting Security Agency.

“They failed to execute utmost diligence to protect the persons from further harm,” SOSIA said in its investigation report.

The report added that the security guards were “hesitant” to act as “human barriers” during the fight.

Aside from the suspension, the guards will also be made to undergo a refresher course on handling such incidents at the airport, Chief Supt. Tomas Rentoy III, director of SOSIA said.

SOSIA earlier fined the Lanting Security Agency PhP30,000 for failing to submit a report regarding the incident and monthly disposition reports.

Rentoy earlier said there were two lapses committed. He said first, the guards should have restrained the others from beating up Tulfo and pacified them. Next, the guards should have taken both parties to the security office for investigation, Rentoy added.

Rentoy further said that SOSIA will be requiring security agencies to put up the necessary CCTV camera as part of efforts to secure areas of jurisdiction.
