7 dead, 56 rescued as vessel sinks off Palawan

The toll has risen to 7 dead and 56 rescued from passenger cargo vessel M/V Josille II, which sunk Tuesday night (June 12) after encountering big waves off Pagawanin Island in El Nido, Palawan.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said the incident happened around 11 p.m. last Tuesday.

The vessel has 14 crewmembers (11 manifested and 3 unmanifested) and 34 passengers listed in the manifest. There were however 18 more passengers there were not in the manifest.

The vessel departed from the port of Liminancong at 7 p.m. last Tuesday en route to El Nido/Coron, Palawan.

The Philippine Navy Vessel (PG386) is conducting search and rescue operations. The Philippine Coast Guard Search and Rescue Vessel (3503) likewise proceeded to El Nido, Palawan to join in the operations.
