BI to deport American sex convict

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has arrested an American fugitive who is a convicted sex offender in the US .

Immigration Commissioner Ricardo David Jr. said Gary Vern Jorden, 68, was arrested last June 4 inside the BI main building in Intramuros, Manila .

Jorden, accompanied by his lawyer, had wanted to inquire about the blacklist order that was issued against him by the bureau.

“Apparently, he was not aware that he is on our wanted list of fugitives,” David said, adding that the BI board of commissioners issued a summary deportation order against Jorden even before his arrest.

Under existing rules, foreigners slapped with deportation orders are automatically included in the immigration blacklist.

Lawyer Ma. Antonette Mangrobang, BI acting intelligence chief, disclosed that the American, who was convicted of sexual battery, is the subject of an arrest warrant issued by a superior court in Los Angeles, California .

Mangrobang said the warrant stemmed from the failure of Jorden to report his change of address as required of a convicted sex offender.

She added that Jorden’s passport was revoked by the State Department, thus making him an undocumented alien.

Investigation revealed that Jorden arrived in the Philippines on June 10 last year and had been staying in Cebu.
