Magnitude-6.0 hits Luzon

A magnitude-6.0 earthquake occurred at 6:18 a.m. Sunday (June 17) in Luzon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said. The epicenter was at 52 kilometers southwest of Candelaria, Zambales.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake was tectonic in origin.

The tremor was felt at Intensity 4 in Makati City and Intensity 3 in Quezon City.

Phivolcs said it is not expecting damage from the shake but is anticipating aftershocks.

Meanwhile, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) recorded the tremor at magnitude-6.1 with the epicenter at 94 kilometers southwest of Dagupan, Pangasinan or 109 kilometers northwest of Olongapo City.
