Drunk Cop Hits Back at Resident

MANILA, Philippines—An intoxicated senior inspector of Quezon City Police, Jun Fortunato, was arrested on November 17 for physical injuries and grave threat charges based on the complaint filed by Francisco Lagahit, a resident of Mangahan Street, Barangay Dela Paz, Pasig City.

According to the complaint, the said drunk police officer beat him up and threatened him with an armalite in Samuel Street, North Olympus, Barangay 172, Caloocan City on or about 9:30 p.m. Consequently, Fortunato was in possession of a 9-mm pistol and a rifle, which were recovered by North Caloocan police.

While Fortunato admitted in news reports that he was in pursuit of Lagahit, the police report revealed that the former was provoked after the latter threw a stone at the roof of the house, hence the countercharge of unjust vexation, according to case investigator SPO2 Joselito Delos Reyes of Barugo Police Station.

Charges against both parties, however, were later dropped after an amicable settlement had been reached.
