One Dead, One Hurt in Laguna Stabbing Incident

LAGUNA, Philippines—A stabbing incident transpired in the compound of a mall under construction in Los Baños, Laguna on Wednesday, December 5, leaving one victim dead and another one injured. The two victims were allegedly attacked by a construction worker in the warehouse building on or about 6:30 p.m. on said day.

Based on various reports, Los Baños (LB) Centro employees had already called it a day when LB Centro Engineer Ricardo Pamanena, 48 years old and a native of Bulacan, was pursued and stabbed to death by the 36-year-old suspect identified as Edgardo Alconsa of Leyte who happens to be employed for construction work in the compound. Unfortunately, the victim was declared dead on arrival after he was rushed to the hospital.

The other victim, Eduardo Jumilde, also an LB Centro worker, was likewise assaulted by the suspect when the former tried to intervene in the incident. He was stabbed by the suspect but was able to survive.

Initial investigation revealed that the stabbing incident was triggered by a work conflict, particularly on the salary payout. According to reports, Engr. Pamanena held Alconsa’s salary and hurled harsh words against him.

Alconsa was immediately arrested after the incident.

Law enforcement authorities, however, suspected that Alconsa suffers from a mental ailment because he was laughing while telling his side of the story.

Meanwhile, the case was forwarded to the Provincial Intelligence Division and Management Branch.
