Meralco Targets 4,000 Prepaid Electricity Subscribers in 2015

More than 1,000 households in Manila and Rizal are now subscribed to Manila Electric Company’s (Meralco) prepaid electricity program or “kuryente load” and the company is eyeing 3,000 more users next year, a report on GMA’s News TV program News-to-Go said.

Under the prepaid electricity program, users may purchase a minimum of P100 and a maximum of P1000 load credits from Meralco business centers, Bayad centers, and selected retail retailers.

Users are also entitled to power rate adjustments and unlike cellphone credits which expire, the electricity load does not have an expiration date.

“Hindi po kakainin ang load, ito po guaranteed, kapag medyo nawawala napakadaling imbestigahan, nand’yan pa rin ang metro, nakikita ang reading so wala talagang nawawala,” Meralco Central Business Area head Ferdie Geluz told GMA News.

Meralco also notifies ‘kuryente load’ users of their usage and load balance via text message.

According to Meralco, installation of the prepaid meter is free of charge.
