Several residential areas in Metro Manila were hit by fires on Monday evening, the second day of Fire Prevention Month.
In Manila, a fire razed a large residential area within the Parola Compound in Tondo. The blaze, which started around 6:30 p.m., hit 5,000 houses and left around 10,000 families homeless. It was declared fire out by 6:23 a.m. Tuesday.
Meanwhile, another fire was reported at Juan Luna Street also in Tondo. The fire, which reached the second alarm as of 7:41 p.m. but was put out at around 8:10 p.m., burned down six houses.
In Quezon City, another fire hit Barangay Payatas. It reached the fourth alarm as of 8:35 p.m.
but was placed under control by 10 p.m.
