Authorities on Monday night nabbed two of five suspects who attempted to hijack a delivery truck carrying a thousand boxes of soap near a police checkpoint in Quezon City.

The suspects, clad in police athletic uniforms and wearing ball caps, flagged down the delivery truck driven by Ernesto Oyte along G. Araneta Ave. at around 11 p.m. last night.

According to Oyte, the suspects ordered him and his helper to alight from the truck and follow them to a parked white SUV.

Oyte and company became dubious that the men were real cops because they were wearing maong pants. After sensing peculiarities, the victims escaped and sought help from the nearby checkpoint.

Chief Superintendent Joel Pagdilao, district director of the Quezon City Police said his men responded immediately and arrested the two suspects.Pagdilao said the incident was the first recorded hijacking in the city.

P/Insp. Henry Navarro, chief of Galas Police Station Investigation & Detective Management Team identified the suspects as Romeo Bacod, 47; and Remigio Umali, 49; both residents of Caloocan City.

Navarro said they recovered a .45 caliber pistol, .38 caliber revolver, hand grenade, two athletic police uniforms, and two ball caps from the suspects.

Bacod and Umali are now detained at the Galas Police Station while their three other cohorts remain at large.
