The Low Pressure Area (LPA) spotted 65 kilometers northwest of Basco, Batanes as of 4 a.m. today enhances the southwest monsoon (habagat), bringing sustained rains over Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon, state weather bureau PAGASA said.
In its Tuesday 24-hour weather advisory, PAGASA said Luzon will experience monsoon rains while the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rains or thunderstorms.
Despite the rains, PAGASA has yet to officially declare the start of the wet season. The announcement may come soon, as four of the eight PAGASA weather stations have already accumulated 25-millimeter rainfall for three consecutive days.
Only one more station is needed to achieve this requirement in order for PAGASA to declare the start of the wet season.
Meanwhile, the weather bureau issued a yellow (heavy) rainfall advisory over Bataan and portions of Zambales and Pampanga at 5 a.m.
Under yellow rainfall advisory, 7.5 to 15 millimeters of rains are observed in the past hour and is expected to last for two more hours. Flooding is possible in areas where this warning is raised.
Light to moderate rains are expected over Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, and portions of Rizal, Batangas, Nueva Ecija and Tarlac.
