The Women in Security Alliance Philippines (WiSAP) and the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP ACG) celebrated a significant milestone in cybersecurity with the formalization of their partnership through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing ceremony held on July 18, 2024. The atmosphere was filled with excitement and anticipation for the future of cybersecurity as the two organizations joined hands in this groundbreaking partnership.
The ceremony, held at the PNP ACG headquarters, was attended by Police Brigadier General Francis M. Carriaga, Director of PNP ACG, along with staff and officers of the unit, and critical members of WiSAP, including Mel Migrino, Chairman and President of WiSAP.
In his opening remarks, Brigadier General Carriaga emphasized the importance of this collaboration in advancing the country’s cybersecurity capabilities. “This partnership is more than a formal agreement; it represents a new journey we embark on together to harness our collective expertise in building a resilient and secure digital environment,” Carriaga said.
Mel Migrino highlighted the critical issue of gender disparity in cybersecurity. “Women’s ideas and contributions are invaluable. This partnership will focus on continuously developing female and male officers through education and joint initiatives,” Migrino stated. She also emphasized WiSAP’s unwavering commitment to supporting gender diversity, equity, and inclusion activities as a core aspect of its mission, making the cybersecurity field more inclusive and equal for all.
Brigadier General Carriaga’s message reflected the unique nature of this collaboration. “This partnership is a badge of honor that signifies our joint commitment to improving cybersecurity inclusively. It’s not merely a contract but a beacon for making a meaningful difference and building a future where all voices are valued, especially in the digital era,” he remarked.
The MOA will facilitate innovative training and continuous development for cybersecurity professionals. It also includes joint efforts in digital forensics, with provisions for advanced equipment and training such as Magnet, FTK Fry, and Celebrite, along with ongoing renewal processes for these tools.
The event concluded with a Certificate of Appreciation to WiSAP, recognizing their dedication and contributions to enhancing cybersecurity through their unique perspective and expertise.
This partnership between WiSAP and PNP ACG marks a significant advancement toward a more secure and inclusive digital future for the Philippines.
