PNP Intensifies Actions Against Apollo Quiboloy’s Alleged Aiders

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has escalated its operations against individuals linked to high-profile fugitive Apollo Quiboloy, focusing on those who allegedly provided shelter to the controversial pastor. This intensified campaign signifies a proactive stance in addressing security threats and ensuring accountability for justice obstructions.

Quiboloy, leader of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC), faces grave allegations, including human trafficking and child sexual abuse. Following his arrest on September 8, 2024, after a 16-day search, the PNP has directed its efforts towards those who assisted his evasion, including close associates and legal representatives who misled authorities. PNP Chief Gen. Rommel Marbil asserted the necessity of prosecuting those obstructing justice, stating, “We will not tolerate any form of obstruction.”

Specialized teams led by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) are gathering evidence to pursue legal action for obstruction of justice. Notably, the investigation has reached high-profile figures, such as former President Rodrigo Duterte and Vice President Sara Duterte, who allegedly shielded Quiboloy from law enforcement.

The PNP’s operations have been met with mixed reactions. While many support the crackdown on influential figures, concerns have emerged regarding the legality of the methods employed, especially following allegations of excessive force in previous attempts to arrest Quiboloy. Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte has called for respect for civil rights amidst these heightened activities.

As the PNP advances in these high-stakes cases, it must balance effective law enforcement with respect for civil liberties to sustain public trust and ensure the integrity of its operations.
