MANILA — A light airplane crashed in a residential subdivision in Paranaque City, killing at least 13 people and injuring several others, police said.
Authorities said a four-seater Beechcraft owned by Queen Air crashed in Better Living Subdivision in Barangay Don Bosco. The airplane also hit F. Serrano Elementary School.
Police said two children were among the dead. Several others who got injured were rushed to nearby Paranaque General Hospital.
A billowing black smoke can be seen from the site several minutes after the crash. The holiday traffic got further snarled as firetrucks and policemen rushed to Dona Soledad Ave., the main road leading to the subdivision.
SecurityMatters witnessed several fire trucks and responding ambulances, escorted by policemen in motorcycles, rush to the crash site.
Witnesses said the burnt body of the pilot can even be seen with a seatbelt on.
The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said the plane was bound for San Jose, Mindoro.
It encountered a problem after taking off from the domestic runway. The pilot, thereafter, asked the control tower for relanding, but the plane instead crashed.
The CAAP said the plane with tail no. 824 is owned by Innovators Technology Inc. (ITI).
