Three vehicles got caught in a road accident along EDSA Shaw Boulevard past 1:00 a.m. on November 17, resulting to two injured drivers. In a report courtesy of GMA News, eyewitnesses revealed that the white SUV was traversing the northbound lane when it bumped into the center island and slammed on the southbound lane initially hitting a sedan before it ended up crashing into a truck.
While the driver of the sedan suffered minor injuries, the SUV driver sustained serious injuries and was found lying beneath the truck right after the accident. The SUV driver was immediately rushed to the hospital.
Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) official Jeffrey Bacani, in a GMA News interview, claimed that the driver might have been thrown out of the windshield given the strong impact of the crash.
Noel Mojica of Metro Parkway Clearing Group also shared with GMA News that the white SUV could have hit bystanders had it not been for the truck that stopped the colliding SUV.
An investigation is underway to figure out the cause of the road accident.
Meanwhile, another motor accident transpired before the MMDA could call it a day. Based on a DZMM report, a Toyota Hilux pick-up driven by Manuel Quisumbing hit an electric post along Examiner St., Barangay South Triangle, Quezon City in the afternoon of the same day, resulting to damaged electric wires.
Quisumbing, 46, who sustained minor injuries, confessed that he was sleeping behind the wheel when the pick-up crashed on the post.
The motor incident disrupted road traffic that Quezon City Traffic Officer Christian Barkase had to stop large trucks from passing through until the area is cleared.
With the car pinned underneath the fallen electric post, traffic enforcers had to seek for the help of Meralco officials to clear the area.
In 2011, there were 77,110 vehicular accidents in Metro Manila with over 7, 000 road mishaps in December, according to MMDA statistics.
