NDRRMC: 31 Dead, 123 Injured in Various Incidents during the Holy Week

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council’s Alerto Semana Santa  7 a.m. update reported that 31 people died and 123 others were injured due to various incidents during this year’s Holy Week break.

Among the incidents monitored by the agency were 19 vehicular accidents, 16 near-drowning and drowning incidents, and seven fire incidents in several areas across the country.

Also, 16 workers were hospitalized after being exposed to poisonous chemical known as caustic soda while cleaning the interior part of a big pipe in Central Azucarera Don Pedro in Nasugbu, Batangas. Victims suffered burns in different parts of their body.

Meanwhile, in Catbalogan, Samar, 20 of the 45 participants in DepEd’s Orientation on Rationalization Plan were rushed to Samar Provincial Hospital for medical attention due to carbon monoxide poisoning.
