Two Dead, 47 Hurt in STAR Tollway Accident

Two people were killed and 47 others were injured in an accident involving a passenger bus and a 10-wheeler truck on the Southern Tagalog Arterial Road (STAR) Tollway in Batangas late Thursday evening.

The fatalities were Arnel Diaz, the bus conductor, and 18-year-old Jade Anthony Dimalibot, one of the passengers.

According to reports, the Dimple Star Transit bus hit a 10-wheeler truck along the northbound lane of the STAR Tollway in Lipa City around 11 p.m.

Of the 60 passengers aboard the bus, 47 were hurt, including the driver who remains in critical condition. Injured passengers were brought to Mary Mediatrix Hospital in Lipa City.

A report on ABSCBN News online said police are looking at human error as the cause of the accident.

Several witnesses claim the driver appeared to be sick and not feeling well, the report said.

The bus driver will face charges of reckless imprudence resulting in double homicide and multiple physical injuries.
