Makati City — January 21, 2026
The landscape of asset protection in the Philippines reached a significant milestone this week as SecurityMatters Philippines and MaxSECON Malaysia launched their most anticipated joint initiative to date: “AI – The Future of Physical Security Application”. Hosted in Makati City, the two-day intensive program brought together a formidable group of regional industry leaders to redefine the intersection of technology, safety, and ethical compliance.

The program represents a true regional security convergence, bringing together SecurityMatters’ Asset Protection Lecture Series (APLS) and MaxSECON’s Transformative Security Training. This high-level collaboration is bolstered by international and regional credentials, including accreditation by the Nordic Counter Terrorism Network and recognition as HRD Corp Claimable for the Malaysian contingent.
The Philippine delegation reflected a fundamental shift toward tech-integrated safety protocols for critical infrastructure and real estate. Major power and development firms were in attendance, including the Aboitiz Group (Aboitiz Renewables and Solar Power), Ayala Group (ACEN Corporation and Ayala Property Management), San Miguel Global Power, and Filinvest Development Corporation. Specialized sectors were also well-represented by ASE Co., Ltd (Philippines) from the semiconductor industry and Carelon Global Solutions from the healthcare shared services sector. Furthermore, the presence of MORE Electric and Power Corporation from Iloilo underscored the nationwide urgency for adopting AI-driven protocols for essential services. The local security frontline was equally strong, with participation from leading security agencies such as CAT, STELSEN, Annapolis, and Vulcan, as well as high-value logistics specialists such as Tamaraw Reinforced Armored Car Services, Inc. and Shieldcoach Corp.

Reflecting this strength, the Malaysian delegation placed heavy emphasis on global supply chain security and specialized logistics services. Senior representatives from global logistics leaders CEVA Logistics, YCH Logistics, and JTI International attended to explore how AI analytics can secure complex transit routes. They were joined by security and solutions specialists from Mega Fortris, Dynamic Guard Force Sdn Bhd, and Symphony Guardforce Sdn. Bhd., all seeking to align their operational models with emerging AI standards.

Architectural Security: Visionary Leadership
The depth of the training was driven by the extensive expertise of the two lead trainers, whose careers span decades of regional security evolution.

Verghese Thirumala, the Founder and Managing Director of Maxitulin and MaxSECON, brought over 30 years of experience in physical security system design, integration, and anti-terrorism operations. An ISO 9001:2015 UKAS-certified professional, his career has seen him lead major security initiatives across Malaysia, the Philippines, India, Indonesia, and Saudi Arabia. Beyond his corporate leadership, he serves as a Deputy Director for the International Association of Counterterrorism and Security Professionals (IACSP) Southeast Asia and is an active member of the Joint Action Security Council (JASCO). His work has been instrumental in developing Deep Learning AI-powered solutions that modernize traditional physical security into sophisticated digitalized systems.

Joining him was Sangar Kandasamy, an expert in cross-border logistics and asset protection with a career rooted in both the public and private sectors. Currently the Group Managing Director for the VanGuard Group, he previously served for eight years in the Royal Malaysian Customs and 22 years as a Director of Supply Chain & Compliance. A dedicated member of the Transported Asset Protection Association (TAPA) Asia Pacific since 2000, he has served as its Honorary Treasurer and Executive Board Director. His academic contributions as an adjunct lecturer at the Singapore Institute of Materials Management complement his practical certifications as a TAPA standards trainer for FSR, TSR, and GSR.
Intelligence with an Ethical Core
The curriculum focused on shifting from reactive guarding to a proactive “zero gap” architecture. While participants learned to leverage AI-driven analytics for predictive modeling and automated threat detection, the training maintained a deep focus on the “ethical perimeter.” Through a comprehensive module on RBA (Responsible Business Alliance) and SMETA compliance, leaders learned to integrate digital transformation with rigorous international standards for worker rights and transparency.
Strategic Announcements: The Road to 2026
As the session concluded, two major announcements were made regarding the future of security education in the region:
- APLS New Lecture Series: It was announced that the Asset Protection Lecture Series (APLS) will launch new sessions in the coming months. SecurityMatters will partner with various government agencies and private corporations to address security through diverse lenses—ranging from critical infrastructure protection to organizational resilience—ensuring a holistic approach to safety in an increasingly complex world.

Launch of i4C.Ph:Ace Esmeralda, Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of SecurityMatters Philippines and Chief Resilience Officer of The Resilient.PH, officially unveiled a landmark initiative set for May 12–14, 2026: i4C.Ph.
