The New People’s Army (NPA) has announced on Wednesday that they have seized two soldiers in Impasug-ong, Bukidnon and said they were holding the captives as “prisoners of war,” Inquirer.net reported.
According to the report, NPA North Central Mindanao spokesperson Allan Juanito identified the two soldiers as Privates Marnel Cinches and Jerrel Yorong of the 8th Infantry Battalion. The two were seized as they were buying supplies in the market.
The rebels recovered a .45-caliber pistol and M203 and M16 ammunition from the soldiers.
Juanito said the soldiers are currently being investigated by the NPA custodial unit holding them captive. “While an investigation is being done to know if they are facing cases or complaints from the people, they are attended to by an NPA custodial unit in accordance to the protocols and laws of war as prisoners of war,” he said.
“We also wanted to tell their families and friends that both are in good health and are safe from danger,” Juanito also told the Inquirer.
