A girder launcher working in a portion of the 1.6-kilometer long NAIA (Ninoy Aquno International Airport) Expressway in Pasay City broke loose and fell on five vehicles Monday afternoon.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority’s (MMDA) Metrobase said that the accident happened at about 3:32 p.m. near the southbound lane of Tramo-Andrews Avenue.
According to SecurityMatters sources, the heavy-lift equipment crashed on a Mazda sedan (AAQ-2450), a Toyota Revo (WMA- -973), a Mitsubishi Montero (PQD-617), Ford Ranger pickup (AAY-1715), and a mini closed van (YES-753).
MMDA’s Road Emergency Unit rushed to the scene and reported that no one was hurt in the incident but it caused heavy traffic in areas leading to NAIA terminals.
The incident caused has closed the westbound lane of Tramo Road and the EDSA-Tramo flyover to Andrews Avenue to traffic.
The MMDA has deployed equipment to remove the collapsed girder launcher from the area but said clearing operations could take several hours.
Motorists were advised to take alternate routes.
