15 dead, 29 missing from Visayas quake

The magnitude 6.9 earthquake that hit the Visayas region Monday (February 6) has resulted to 15 dead, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Tuesday (February 7) said.

In its 12:30 a.m. update, the NDRRMC said the official tally says at least 52 were injured and 29 individuals remain missing. Most of the dead were either pinned by collapsing walls or hit by concrete debris. A nine-year-old girl died after being hit by a concrete wall. A sixty-two year-old woman died from heart attack.

Meanwhile, the 49 missing individuals were allegedly buried in a landslide in Barangay Planas in Guilhugan, Negros Oriental.

The NDRRMC identified the dead as Bernadette Raidan, Ramon Ganti, Anafe Estrabella, Manolita Corceiga, Betty Yap Manzano, Cherry Pagao, Gilbert Ubando, Eric Benigay, Maricar Narciso, Aljun Sabando, Acebes Palumar, a certain Bayloces and three others who remain unidentified.
