2 NPA Encounters in Butuan City and Surigao del Sur

Two separate encounters between government security forces and members the New People’s Army (NPA) occurred in Mindanao Tuesday, September 10.

At around 10:00 a.m., army troops from the 29th Infantry Battalion clashed with NPA rebels at Sitio Lamosig, Brgy. Tungao, Butuan City. Firefight lasted for about 15 minutes with one soldier wounded. Government security forces have established checkpoints to limit the movement of the rebels and their use of vehicles.

At around 4:00 p.m., 30 armed rebels clashed with troops from the 36th Infantry Battalion in Brgy. Siagao, Municipality of San Miguel, Surigao del Sur.. The firefight lasted for an hour and a half and resulted to two army personnel wounded and unknown number of casualties on the rebels’ side. Wounded were Pfc Rhime Detalo, who sustained gunshot wounds on his legs, and Pfc Michael Herdiles, who sustained a gunshot wound in the arm. The wounded were immediately evacuated for medical treatment.
